About me (2020)

Hi, I’m Elle!1 #

Spring in Central Park 🌸
春天的 Central Park 让我怀念小时候住在日本看见的『桜の木』🌸

I am currently beholden to the academic curiosities of the world for the sake of knowledge as a PhD student at Oxford University. I was previously the weighted average of a hedge fund baby2, a not-so-hipster-and-not-so-artsy-and-not-really-a-kid hipster art kid, and a machine learning aficionado. I am now pixels on the Internet trying to “do something meaningful”. I am sometimes an enigma to understand, but always friendly, curious, and driven3.

Previously, I paid somewhere nearing $100k for my continuously-devaluing undergraduate degree at your Asian parents’ favorite public institution of higher education. By the way, that’s UC Berkeley. Caught between my dreams of becoming a Renaissance woman and the realities of fulfilling Millennial expectations and the inability to say “no”, I triple majored in Statistics, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, and Applied Mathematics4. No worries if you glossed over those words. I usually tell people “Computer Science”, lest I become stereotyped as an “eeks-Regents’” tech bro or a math “genius”.

If you’d like to learn more, please find my CV here. Just kidding; I’m a bit too lazy to update my résumé. The place to stalk me professionally is LinkedIn, your second best bet behind getting in touch5!

  1. But like a jellicle cat, I have three names. Elle is a nickname for Michelle to avoid unnecessary name-hashing collisions. And yes, “Cats” was among the most terrifying movies I’ve ever seen. ↩︎

  2. To be clear, I worked at a hedge fund so that I could be my own sugar mommy. Also, I don’t mean for what I say to be political, but I understand the notion of a “Sugar Mommy” and “hedge fund” conjures associations involving wealth and privilege, among other important topics. If you’d like to discuss the philosophical questions of modern society, please reach out! (I’m always happy to talk, about anything 🙃) ↩︎

  3. As seen on my dating profile, so you know it’s real. ↩︎

  4. In no particular order, except reverse alphabetical. ↩︎

  5. In the order of responsiveness: email, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter ↩︎
